ONC Program

Established in 1970, the Ottawa Nepean Canadians Baseball Club offers an elite baseball development program that runs throughout the year.

The ONC Program consists of four parts:

1. Fall Season

Starts first week in September and runs until Thanksgiving. All teams will train 3-5 times a week and play simulated intersquad games. Our workouts will be dynamic and high paced! We will be dividing large groups into smaller working groups based on positions to maximize reps.

Our goal will always be development and working hard to get better everyday. Our vision for intersquad and sim games is to work on all facets of the game from innings for pitchers, at bats for hitters, defensive work, and game situations. We want to do this in a controlled setting to maximize our internal evaluations to best come up with individual plans for the off-season work/goals. This will take place mostly at our home diamond Hamilton Yards.

2. Off-Season Training

Starts in January and runs 17 weeks. Each team will have 2 workout times at Bell Sensplex in Kanata and a 4 hour open hitting/pitching and strength & conditioning night at Sluggerz in Stittsville. Our players will work with our staff on skills development, positional play and game play training.

Fast paced, dynamic workouts with strong planning and execution leading up will put our players in the best position to be prepared for the season and make huge strides towards their development goals over the winter months. Much of a player's development and improvement will occur in this portion of the program.

3. League Play (CPBL)

Starts in May and runs through June. Founded in 2015, the Canadian Premier Baseball League provides exactly what its name alludes to: a top-tier organization within Canada's baseball sphere that hosts the top amateur players and programs from Ontario.

The CPBL and its member programs offer players a rich competitive environment, cutting-edge resources to succeed, and access to the proper showcase events to hone their skill sets. Above all, the league is committed to producing high-caliber players with a focus on development and to enhancing the profile of the game in Canada.

In less than a decade of existence, the CPBL has already produced numerous MLB draft picks, Canadian Junior National Team players, and student-athletes who have continued their careers at post-secondary institutions.

Here are the 12 member programs under the CPBL umbrella:

  • Académie Baseball Canada
  • Fieldhouse Pirates
  • Great Lake Canadians
  • Ontario Astros
  • Ontario Blue Jays
  • Ontario Nationals
  • Ontario Royals
  • Ontario Terriers
  • Ottawa Nepean Canadians
  • Titans Baseball Club
  • Toronto Mets
  • Watson Elite
  • Windsor Selects

Travel costs for league play for the player and parent(s) is the responsibility of the family (for example - gas, hotels, meals).

4. US Tournaments

In July and early August teams will travel to the US to play in 3 tournaments on the weekends. This is an opportunity to play games against baseball talent in the US northeast and midwest. Playing in these events provides our players with exposure to US college scouts from all levels of the NCAA, NJCAA and the NAIA.

Travel costs for the player and parent(s) is the responsibility of the family. Teams will also practice twice during the week.

After US tournament play, there is a break and then we hold tryouts for the following year's program in late August.

Commitment

Many of our players participate in other sports. We encourage this and simply ask that the player communicate with their coach when they may be absent from a team activity (training, practice); we would like the players to prioritize their ONC commitments during league play and tournament season. Like any elite sport, the more time you devote, the greater the development and the higher the performance.

Personal Development

There is no question about the important role sports plays in the well-being of youth, in terms of physical fitness and mental health.

Whether our players continue their baseball careers at the collegiate level, professionally, or simply move on with their education and career, the Canadians baseball club provides our players and their parents with an elite experience.

Time spent in the Canadians program also helps them prepare for adulthood by developing the ability to graciously accept success, remain strong during tough situations and difficult outcomes, and be good members of the community through volunteer service efforts by our players.
