Ottawa Nepean Canucks 10U Sweep Weekend Series in Cornwall
CORNWALL, ON — The Ottawa Nepean Canucks 10U squad delivered a dominant performance at Legion Baseball Park this weekend, winning all four games across two doubleheaders. With timely hitting, lockdown pitching, and sharp defense, the Canucks swept the Trois-Lacs Titans and Cornwall River Rats in convincing fashion.
Game 1 (Saturday): Canucks Edge Titans 9–6 in See-Saw Battle
The Canucks opened the weekend with a 9–6 victory over the Trois-Lacs Titans. After both teams scored early on steals of home, Ottawa Nepean pulled ahead in the second inning with productive groundouts from Lane Woods and Cohen Sweet.
The Titans regained the lead in the fourth, but Ottawa responded quickly with RBI singles from Layken Walker, Morgan Dunmore, and Bryden Moloughney to seal the win.
Sweet started on the mound, striking out two over 1.1 innings while allowing no hits. Dunmore was sharp in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings and striking out four.
Hudson MacDonell and Dunmore each collected two hits, while Walker led the team with two RBIs. MacDonell, Walker, Fred Pellerin, and Dunmore each swiped multiple bases as the Canucks racked up 18 steals.
Game 2 (Saturday): Canucks Rally Late for 9–8 Win Over Titans
The Canucks showed resilience in Game 2, overcoming a six-run deficit to defeat the Titans 9–8.
After Trois-Lacs jumped ahead 7–1 in the third inning, Ottawa mounted a comeback in the fifth with a single from Dunmore and walks drawn by Alex Krenosky and Woods. Simon Ellis delivered a clutch RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at eight, and the Canucks pushed across the winning run shortly after.
Leo Zhao started and struck out three over 2.1 innings. Adrian Agius and Moloughney pitched in relief.
Ellis led the offense with two hits, and Dunmore drove in two runs. Woods was patient at the plate, drawing three walks. The Canucks finished with 11 team walks in the game.
Game 3 (Sunday): Canucks Crush Cornwall 28–0 in Offensive Explosion
Sunday morning saw the Canucks erupt for a 28–0 win over the Cornwall River Rats.
MacDonell, Dunmore, Ellis, Sweet, and Krenosky (two RBIs) all drove in early runs, and the Canucks never looked back. They put up nine runs in the second and 13 more in the third.
Walker started on the mound, striking out four in two no-hit innings. Pellerin pitched a clean third with two strikeouts.
Offensively, Agius and Marshall McCaffrey led the team with three hits each. Ellis drove in four runs, while MacDonell, Walker, Pellerin, and Moloughney all had multi-hit games. The Canucks drew 14 walks and stole six bases. MacDonell and McCaffrey led the way on the basepaths. Dunmore led the defense with six clean chances behind the plate.
Game 4 (Sunday): MacDonell Closes Out 19–4 Victory with 6 Ks
The Canucks capped their perfect weekend with a 19–4 win over Cornwall, thanks in part to an electric relief performance from MacDonell, who struck out six batters over two dominant innings to close the game.
At the plate, MacDonell went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored — totaling four bases on the day.
Ottawa jumped out early with RBIs from Moloughney, Krenosky, Agius, Zhao, and Walker. Woods, MacDonell, Moloughney, and Ellis kept the pressure on with key at-bats in the second. The Canucks continued to roll with five more runs in both the third and fourth innings.
Walker went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Krenosky and Agius each added two hits and two RBIs. Dunmore had a three-hit day with an RBI and once again caught the entire game.
McCaffrey started on the mound, striking out one. Krenosky pitched 1.1 scoreless innings before MacDonell shut the door.
Ottawa tallied 23 hits and 19 RBIs, with contributions from every player. The defense remained consistent over four games.
